- 1. Objective
The objective of the Business Controller functional description is to clarify the role and it’s responsibility, to proactively clarify any potential issues that could result in misstatements in financial statements and accounting records and lead to substantially write-offs. The requirements hereby outlined by the central Finance organization, shall be regarded as a minimum requirement, and are not limited to this functional description.
- 2. Organization
The Business Controller will typically report to the Chief Financial Officer.
- 3. Competence requirements
The competence requirement is the following:
- University degree within finance, accounting and/or auditing or comparable education.
- IFRS and local GAAP/tax competence.
- Strong financial and business understanding.
- Adequate communication skills towards employees in all parts of the organization.
- Strong analytical skills, highly motivated and result-oriented.
- Minimum five years of work experience in a similar position or in auditing firm
- 4. Areas of Responsibility
The Business Controller functional description includes, but is not limited to the area of responsibility listed below;
- Perform on time the reporting of the Financial Statement, Statutory and Tax Reporting.
- Responsibility for the quality of the reporting mentioned above.
- Management of the accounting team and support the Chief Financial Officer.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate declaration of taxes and social security contribution,
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles.
- Ensure compliance with SYSCOHADA and tax regulations.
- Ensure compliance with ICFR (Internal Control over Financial Reporting) principles.
- Be part of risk assessment of Financial Statement according to company’s methodology
- Ensure sufficient internal control activities are in place and documented.
- Each month end closing; quality check and review the full Financial Statement for completeness.
- Minimum quarterly, review of the full Financial Statement together with the Chief Financial Officer
- Ensure clear roles and responsibility as well as procedures and check lists are in place for all critical activities within his/her area of responsibility.
- Prepare and file together with CFO the statutory reporting according to local requirements, at the latest within end of May.
- Ensure strong internal control procedures to safeguard company assets.
- Contribute to the budgeting and forecasting process. Give full support to the Chief financial Officer on all reporting, budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Contribute to safeguard the company’s financial prosperity, continuously share key information and highlights in order to improve the accounting team’s knowledge for the drive of the business.
- Get involved in all related financial key decisions, strategic thinking and implementations.
- Handle the cost managing functions and ensure production costing is correct for proper margin recognition. Review, audit production costing and train on the correct costing methodology.
- Develop Individual Key Objectives and Key Performance Indicators with team members and monitor individual performance.
- Perform regular performance review of accounting staff, in line with company’s principles and identify training needs and opportunities to develop a highly skilled financial reporting team.
- Report the trends and key profitability issues to the management.
- Proactive identification of new risks through regular process and ongoing business process and system landscape optimization
- Make propositions to the head of finance (CFO) in order to improve the corporate performances.
- Execute all other tasks the head of finance (CFO) could assign temporarily.
- 5. Scope of authority
The Business Controller is authorized to make decisions in line with limits outlined by CFO and under the control and responsibility of the CFO. Any material non-routine or estimation transactions or issues need to be discussed and agreed with the Chief Financial Officer.
